Rural Chaplains Gathering
It was after our initial meeting at Dubbo last year that the Rural Chaplains from across NSW decided to get together in Parkes on the 12th and 13th February.
The rural chaplains come fro a variety of Christian denominations which include the Salvation Army, Presbyterians, Anglicans, Catholics, Uniting Church and Chaplaincy Australia. It is a diverse group with differing styles of ministry and yet a strong belief in serving the rural people of NSW.
On Thursday the Rev Dr Stephen Robinson offered a presentation on ministry in disaster situations which unfortunately the Victorian fire tragedy made very topical. Stephen's presentation was received very well by the chaplains who related to many of the situations Stephen put forward.
The hospitality we received from the Parkes Uniting Church was tremendous and it was decided that our next meeting would be held in Parkes later this year.
I am very grateful to the chaplains who take the time out from their busy schedules to share about their ministry experiences. Whilst we may have differing styles of ministry, theological views and basic human diversity the call of Jesus to serve those in need is shared by us all and helps us celebrate our differences.
